Project Steering Committee

Project FUTSAL is in innovative project designed to provide work and  further education opportunities for participants as well as encouraging them to volunteer in local sports clubs and schools. The project brings together a diverse range of partners and affects a broad spectrum of stakeholders.

The project is funded by the E.U. Ireland Wales 2007-2013 programme with the funding being under the theme of the sustainable regeneration of communities.

There are a number of challenges which the project management team must meet to ensure the continued success of the project. With this in mind, the management team has assembled a strong project steering committee made up of decision makers from key agencies.

The purpose of the steering committee is:

  • To provide relevant advice and strategic direction for the project
  • To enhance the prospects of project sustainability
  • To positively influence future funding opportunities for the project

The project management team is proud to announce the steering committee members as follows:

  • Mr. Michael Moriarty  (General Secretary, Irish Vocational Education Association)
  • John Lyons TD ( Labour TD, Dublin North West)
  • Ann Jones AM  (Welsh Assembly Member)
  • Karl Mitchell (Sport and Active Living Manager, Dublin City Council)
  • Albert Owen MP (Member of Parliament, representing North Wales)
  • Superintendent Rob Kirman (North Wales Police)
  • Niamh Daffy (National Coordinator, CARA APA, Tralee)
  • Mr. Dafydd Williams (Principal and CEO Coleg Menai, Wales)
  • Dr. Catherine Woods (Head of Health & Human Performance, Dublin City University)
  • Trefor Lloyd Hughes (Vice President, Football Association of Wales)

The first steering committee meeting took place on Thursday 26th January 2012 at the Portmarnock Hotel & Golf Link, Portmarnock, Co. Dublin.
